Hi

just wondering if anyone can confirm the setup for a trailing stop-loss using TradeSim ? Alot of the reference in the Manual is regarding Metastock, but slowly getting there and does include reference to trailing stops..

I am not sure if It can be done on the stops tab [diagram below] ? or does it have to be scripted ???  Any help would be much appreciated.

cheers etrader

Hi there etrader... Sorry about the empty reply. I've had trouble with my spyware (now disabled). I hope this post comes through.

Anyway ... have you thought of using the volatility stop that is already in the Bullcharts Indicators under the name "Volatility Trailing Stop"?

hhv(C-2*ATR(10),15);

YOu could use this as a stop and/or an exit. You could also plot this on your charts to visually check how the stop works.

You could also copy the indicator, rename it and then fiddle around with the 2, 5 and 10 to see if there is another combination that suits you better. You could also add a few input statements to your copied indicator to make the fiddling easier.

failing to plan is planning to fail.

Hi,

Etrader, the formula you're showing above has the script entered in as the Initial Stop. This may not be what you're after as TradeSim only calculates the InitialStop on the day of entry, whereas a trailing stop typically changes over the duration of the position.

So, you need to add the trailing stop into your exit criteria on the exit tab. If you have other criteria as well you will need to turn off "match all" or use BullScript for your exit criteria.
(You can also make criteria based on the markers for things like the JB Simple Stop Loss indicator, etc)
