Is it possible, now we can put am MA onto the volume chart, to scan using vol/ma criteria? I specifocally want to scan for shares that have their volume above a 30 EMA.

If anyone can also help me to create a scan of moving average crossovers combined with the above vol/EMA I'd appreciate it.

1. Click on the New scan button and enter a name for the scan
2. Select the "Scan Criteria" tab and press the "New..."
3. Set the first value to "Is a price or chart field" and select "Volume"
4. Leave the condition as "Is greater than"
5. Change the second value to "Is an Indicator" and select the indicator called "Moving Average - Volume"
6. Press the parameters button
7. Select Method = Exponential and Time period = 30
8. Press OK and OK. You're ready to scan . Press Apply and Run

Notes:
1. It's possible to just use the "Moving Average" indicator and select the volume expression, but if you create a linked chart then it will put the MA on the price axis - which probably isn't what you want for volume.
2. At any given time, approx half of all securities are at above average volume. You might consider changing your requirement to something like "is greater than average volume + 50%", or "has crossed above average volume in the last 5 day", as some examples.

Thanks Peter,

I have run the scan as suggested. However I need to refine it to show only those charts where the volume has moved above the 30 EMA in the past 3 days. How do I write that?

Also would like to refine it to traded volume of over 250,000.How would I do that?

1. Open up the scan described above
2. Add a new criteria as follows:
  a. First Value: "Is a price or chart field"  "Volume"
  b. Comparison: "crossed Above" ... any time in the last 3 days
  c. Second Value:  set up as the moving average.. same as before
3. Add another criteria:
  a. First Value: "Is a price or chart field"  "Volume"
  b. Comparison: "Is greater than"
  c. Second value: "Is a number"   250000
